Before Sérgio and Odair left for the United States, Seu Jorge, in his ongoing search for financial stability, had moved the family to São João de Meriti. After their international return, everyone moved to Campo Grande, another suburb, near the beaches of Barra de Guaratiba and Sepetiba, where he realized he could prosper as a watchmaker serving the large number of beachgoers whose watches were damaged by seawater.
It was during this period that Sérgio began his personal journey as a composer and arranger, even using his father’s old reel-to-reel recorder to capture his own ideas—often recording in duet with himself and exploring the machine’s possibilities to the fullest.
