Odair, who was eight and wanted to follow his brother in everything, was soon invited to join the little circle as well. And that is how the first chorinhos were born in the house, in duets marked by the typical “bass lines in thirds” of traditional choro. To everyone’s surprise, in just a few days Sérgio and Odair already mastered much of the repertoire their father knew by heart—everything learned by ear. It wasn’t long before they became well-known figures in town, soon invited to play at different events. Before long, they were being introduced to local audiences on the city’s radio programs, often as the main musical attraction.
