In 1983, once again in Paris, they were invited to a private party at the residence of José Pons, a frequent host to renowned musicians. Among those present was Astor Piazzolla and his group. There, Sérgio and Odair had the opportunity to play their arrangement of “Escualo.” Piazzolla’s reaction was enthusiastic, promising to write a work especially dedicated to the duo. At first, the brothers imagined it was merely a passing moment. But the following year they received Tango Suite, a work that would become a pillar of the Duo Assad repertoire and a definitive milestone in their international projection.
